Im not entirely sure why people say Singapore is boring. There is so much to do (and eat!), as well as some breathtaking views. Whether on a long layover or on a longer trip, the local government are investing much into its museums and galleries which are getting consistently better, so you can pick up some local culture.
ARTSCIENCE MUSEUM

As the title suggests, this is a ‘collision of art and science’ space, incorporating design, media, architecture and technology. It is part of the mind-boggling ultra-modern Marina Bay Sands complex designed by Moshe Safdie. Enjoying the architecture is an experience in itself and the displays are often interactive or immersive. There is no permanent collection and relies on temporary exhibitions which are at times tricky to classify.
NATIONAL GALLERY SINGAPORE

VISIT TIME: 1 HOUR
If you want to find out more about the development of art in Southeast Asia and China, The NGS has a vast collection on permanent view featuring local artists, calligraphy, and scroll based works. It opened in 2015 uniting the City Hall and former Supreme Court into one large complex by local architects Studio Milou. So far, the temporary exhibitions have been wonderful with lots of activities for kids to enjoy.
PEARL LAM GALLERIES

VISIT TIME: 20 MINUTES EACH, BUT STAY TO ENJOY THE AREAS
Pearl Lam is an established Chinese gallerist quick to see the potential of Singapore. She has two sites: in Dempsey Hill and Gillman Barracks. She shows exhibitions combining contemporary art and design with an occasional appearance from a western artist. Her core billing is Asian and both spaces are worth a visit. The Gillman Barracks site is a cluster of local galleries so you might like to walk around to get more sense of the local talents.
